Publicly quoted companies have their share prices quoted on exchanges where you can buy and sell at that price.

This type of investment carries a high risk not least because you are pinning your investment hopes on the prospect of one company, unlike any investment made into unit trusts or OEIC's where the investment is spread over many company shares.

If the company fails the chances of receiving any of your investment back is very remote because in any company wind up the ordinary shareholder is the last to receive any share of residual capital.
